NOTAR ® ANTI − TORQUE FAN SYSTEM
REMOVAL / INSTALLATION
1. NOTAR ® Fan Assembly
A. Removal
(Ref. Figure 401)

Do the Anti-Torque/Directional
Controls Travel/Rigging Verifi­
cation procedure after you do maintenance
on anti-torque controls (ref. Section
67-20-00).
(1). Put WARNING in the cockpit that the
flight controls are disconnected.
(2). Remove the baggage compartment soft
insulation roof panels (ref. Section
25-50-00).
(3). Remove access panels F7 and F8 (ref.
Section 53-30-00).
(4). Remove cotter pin (12), nut (11), bolt
(10), and washers (9).
(5). Disconnect shaft assembly (8) from the
rod end bearing.
(6). Remove lockwire (C702) from bolts (5).
(7). Remove bolts (5) and washers (6).
(8). Slide pitch assembly (5) aft until it
disengages from fan support shaft (2).
(9). Measure and record the clearance
between the tips of the fan blades and
the felt seal.
(a). The clearance must be 0.030 to 0.065
inch (0.76 to 1.65 mm) .
(10). Measure and record clearance between
each fan blade and the hub.
(a). If clearance of a blade is more than
the average clearance of other blades
by more than
0.10 inch (2.5 mm) ,
remove and inspect the torsion-ten­
sion strap for that blade (ref. Section
64-30-01, Inspection / Test).
(11). Remove upper center diffuser assembly
F6 (ref. Section 53-30-00).
(12). Remove lockwasher (4) from support
shaft (2).
(a). Release tangs from locknut (3).
(b). Pull lockwasher (4) from shaft (2).
(c). Discard lockwasher (4).
(13). Apply the rotor brake, if installed (ref.
applicable Rotorcraft Flight Manual,
Section 01-00-00, Table 201).
Do not leave the fan on the
support shaft without the
locknut. The fan can slip off the sup­
port shaft and cause damage to the ro­
torcraft or injury to personnel.
(14). Remove locknut (3) with anti-torque
shaft socket (T603).
NOTE:
If the rotorcraft does not have a rotor
brake, you must have the help of one more
person. Manually hold the main rotor hub so
the fan does not turn during removal of the
locknut.
(15). Remove fan (1).
(16). If installed, disengage the rotor brake.
