B. Fan Drive Assembly Seal and Wear
Sleeve Replacement

(1). Drain transmission oil until oil level is
below the sight gauge (Ref. Section
12-00-00).
(2). Remove fan drive assembly (Ref. Fan
Drive Assembly Removal).
Cover opening in transmission
to prevent entry of foreign ob­
jects.
(3). Set mount assembly (T318) on a vise
and secure fan drive assembly (1,
Figure 803) with bolt.
(4). Remove lockwasher (2, Figure 803)
from fan drive assembly with puller
assembly (T322) (Ref. Figure 804).
(5). Loosen locknut (3, Figure 803) with
wrench assembly (T319) and remove it
from fan drive assembly.
(6). Remove retaining ring (7) from groove
of seal housing (10).
(7). Remove flange assembly (4) using
puller assembly (T320) (Ref.
Figure 804).
(8). Inspect wear sleeve (6, Figure 803) for
damage; no visible depth in the seal lip
contact area, nor any visible damage to
wear surface or flange. Any damage
requires replacement of wear sleeve (6).
(9). Replace damaged wear sleeve (6). Refer
to Figure 805 for tool set-up.
NOTE:
Wear sleeve flange may have to be cut
prior to attaching remover assembly (T324).
(a). If installed, mark location of wear
sleeve inner end on flange assembly.
(b). If installed, remove wear sleeve
flange by cutting edge of flange to
“tear-off” groove.
(c). Twist and pull wear sleeve flange to
remove along “tear-off” groove.
(d). Remove and discard wear sleeve
using remover assembly (T324).
(e). To prevent leaks, remove residual
wear sleeve adhesive compound from
flange assembly (4, Figure 803) using
cloth dampened with solvent (Ref.
CSP-SPM, Section 20-20-00,
General Cleaning).
NOTE:
Until removed, wear sleeve flange will
hold retaining ring and dust seal on flange
assembly (4, Figure 803).
(f). Remove retaining ring (7) and dust
seal (8). Clean dust seal.
(g). Install retaining ring (7) on flange
assembly (4).
(h). Install dust seal (8) on flange assem­
bly (4). Ensure dust seal protrusion
around inner diameter faces outside
(Ref. Figure 805).
(i). Install new wear sleeve on flange
assembly, use pusher (T323). Align
end of wear sleeve with mark made
in step (9).(a).
NOTE:
To prevent wear sleeve deformation and
leakage, wear sleeve flange is not removed
after installation.
(10). Remove seal housing (10, Figure 803)
from fan drive assembly (1).
