4. Installation and Setup

Overview

Figure 40 shows the SVI II ESD positioner which is designed to prevent and mitigate possibly 
negative situations. It is a position controller assembled on a pneumatically actuated valve 
assembly. Its role is to position an emergency shutdown valve to 0% or 100% with a probability 
of failure on demand (PFD) in accordance with IEC61508 for SIL3 application. It replaces solenoid 
valves typically utilized to actuate a spring-return. This section provides detailed procedures for 
installing the SVI II ESD.
