GRILL STILL DOES NOT LIGHT,DISPLAY READS FLAME OUT,
CHECK FIREPOT AND HOPPER
Ÿ
If the grill still won't fire-up, remove the seven screws securing the
fan/access panel to the barbecue body. Confirm that the wire labeled
igniter is plugged into the red receptacle on the back of the Pellet
Boss®.
Ÿ
Make sure that pellets are feeding into the firepot. If the auger is not
turning, check the auger connection on the back of the Pellet Boss®. It
should be plugged into the
white receptacle .
Ÿ
Check the fan to ensure it is operating. If not, check the fuse located on
the back of the Pellet Boss®.
Ÿ
If the fuse is blown, the fan, auger and igniter will not operate. However,
the Pellet Boss® display will still light up.
Ÿ
Replace the fuse using a 4 AMP Fast Blow type of the same length and
diameter as the fuse on the back of the Pellet Boss®. A replacement
fuse is stapled to the back inside cover of this manual.
NOTE: If your fuse is blown, it is a likely indication that one of the
grill components (fan, auger motor, or igniter) is failing or has failed.
Contact the MAK GRILLS Service Department for assistance.
MY GFCI CIRCUIT KEEPS TRIPPING
Ÿ
This is an indication that your igniter is going out.
Ÿ
Follow the instructions for turning off your igniter on page 38.
Ÿ
Contact your dealer or MAK GRILLS about getting a replacement
igniter.
Ÿ Follow Manual Lighting Procedure steps until you replacement igniter
arrives.
MANUAL LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS
In the event that your igniter fails and will not light the pellets in the
firepot, you can still start your grill using the easy to follow manual lighting
instructions below:
Ÿ
Start with a completely clean firepot.
Ÿ
Place a small handful of unburnt pellets into the firepot.
Ÿ Add (2) two tablespoons of either alcohol fire gel or hand sanitizer to
the pellets in the firepot. Mix the fire gel and the pellets.
Ÿ Drop in a match into the firepot.
Ÿ
Wait (5) five minutes for the fire to establish.
Ÿ
Carefully place all of the interior components back into place. Be
careful not to get burned!
Ÿ
Turn the grill on and cook food as you normally would.
Ÿ Contact MAK GRILLS for a replacement igniter.

FAN DOES NOT RUN
Ÿ The fan should operate any time the power is turned on. If the fan is
not running, unplug the power cord, remove the fan/access panel to
get to the back of the controller. Make sure that the wire labeled
fan is
plugged into the blue receptacle.
Ÿ
Check fan blades for any obstructions such as pellets or dirt. Clean as
necessary.
Ÿ
Check the fuse on the back of the Pellet Boss® to make sure that it
has not blown. If necessary, replace with a 4.0 AMP Fast Blow type
fuse of the same length and diameter.
AUGER IS NOT TURNING
Ÿ
The auger works on a timed interval basis depending on the
temperature setting on the Pellet Boss®. During start-up the auger will
run for approximately (3) three minutes. It then may shut off for a
specified period of time depending on the temperature reading inside
the grill, then continue to run again.
Ÿ Empty the pellet hopper to see if your pellets have been exposed to
moisture. If they have absorbed moisture or water, they will swell and
jam your auger.
Ÿ
Check to make sure that no foreign objects (dirt, rocks, etc.) have
fallen into the pellet hopper. Remove any foreign objects if necessary.
Ÿ If the pellets have jammed your auger, you will need to remove the
auger and clean it and the auger tube out. This can be done by
removing pellets from the hopper and by removing the firepot.
Ÿ
Use a shop vac to suck-out as many of the pellets from each end of
the auger tube.
Ÿ
Remove the fan/access panel from the barbecue body.
Ÿ

Unplug the auger from the Pellet Boss . Remove the (2) two auger
mounting screws from the rear of the auger motor. Do NOT remove the
two black star screws. Just the screws BELOW the motor located on
the left and right side of the auger motor.
Ÿ
Remove the (4) four auger bracket screws from the front and back side
of the hopper.
Ÿ
Once the auger bracket is removed, twist the auger motor counter
clockwise to essentially unscrew it from the auger tube.
Ÿ Once the auger has been freed, clean the auger, auger tube and
surrounding areas of any remaining pellet material.
Ÿ Replace auger in reverse order. Plug it back into the WHITE receptacle
on the back of the Pellet Boss®, turn on the grill and see if the auger
runs. Do this before adding new pellets to the hopper and allowing the
auger tube to once again fill with pellets.
Ÿ
If the auger works; place the firepot back into position, reattach the
fan/access panel, fill the hopper with pellets. Plug the grill back into
electrical power and turn the grill on.
