CLEANING YOUR MAK GRILL
In order to keep your MAK looking as good as new and operating
correctly, follow these recommended cleaning/maintenance guidelines.
Take care of your MAK, and it will take good care of you!
NOTE:
Let grill cool completely before attempting any cleaning.
EXTERIOR:
4
Stainless Steel: It is recommended that every time you want to cook
on your 2 Star, that you wipe down your grill lid, (front and back)
using a damp paper towel. This prevents “ambering” from occurring
which discolors the steel. For grease removal, use a bio-degradable
degreaser. The liquid version of Barkeeper's Friend is an
inexpensive and excellent stainless steel polish. For more severe
smoke discoloration, we recommend using a liquid degreaser.
4
Fan Panel (located on the left end of the barbecue body). Twice a
year, clean the ports on the fan panel to remove dust, dirt, pollen or
other debris. Use a shop-vac to quickly clean the panel. Or remove
the panel from the grill and wash it using hot, soapy water. Rinse, dry
it and then reattach to the grill.
4
Grill Lid: To reduce grease drippings, clean the lip and inside of the
grill lid using a mild dish detergent and hot water. Some grill owners
remove the lid from the grill and clean the underside with a general
all purpose degreaser.
4
Pellet Boss®: Use a damp cloth and mild dish detergent to remove
greasy fingerprints, dust or dirt. Avoid getting soap or water into the
meat probe inputs. Wipe dry using a soft cloth or towel.
4
Pellet Hopper: Remove accumulated pellet dust by either brushing or
vacuuming out the pellet hopper as needed. It is also a good idea to
vacuum out pellet dust from the auger tube as well.
4
Powder Coat: Remove grease or cooking residue from the powder
coat finish using mild dish detergent and hot water. If the residue
does not come off easily, use a scrubby pad to lightly agitate the
affected area. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and a soft towel to dry.

INTERIOR:
4
Ash Clean Out: When there is sufficient pellet ash accumulation in the
bottom of the barbecue, remove the square ash clean out cover and
brush the ash through the square opening. The ash will fall into the (2)
two quart grease drawer located on the right underside of the
barbecue body.
4
Cooking Chamber: To remove grease or food debris, use a general all
purpose degreaser. Once the grill surface has been cleaned, wipe
down with a damp (not dripping) cloth or towel. Repeat to remove any
degreaser residue. Dry with a soft cloth or towel, or allow to air dry.
4
Cooking Grates: While the grates are still warm (not hot), take a grill
brush and scrub off food debris. Follow by rubbing a paper towel from
left to right on the grates to finish cleaning. You can also remove the
grates from the grill and wash using hot water and dish detergent.
Then dry and place back into the grill.
4
Firepot: One of the great features of your MAK Grill is the removable
firepot. To remove, insert your finger into the firepot pin ring and pull
up. Slide the firepot off of the auger tube and igniter tube. Dump any
pellet ash into a non-combustible container. Slide the firepot back into
position and secure using the firepot pin. We recommend emptying
your firepot after every (3) three to (5) five uses.
4
Heat Diffuser: Brush off ash accumulation as needed. There is no
other cleaning that needs to be done. Remove the lid, and using a
whisk broom brush the ash into the bottom of the cooking chamber.
Follow instructions for the ash clean out to finish this task.
4
Grease Drawer: Check the level of grease/drippings which have
accumulated in the grease drawer on a regular basis. Do not allow it
to overfill or grease may run out of the drawer and onto the ground.
Some grill owners use a foil loaf pan or aluminum foil to line their
grease drawers.
4
When the drawer starts to get full, carefully pull it out using the drawer
handle. You may need to support the drawer with both hands to keep
from spilling the contents. Dispose of the contents as you would any
cooking grease. Finish cleaning the drawer by wiping it out with
absorbent paper towels.
4
Grease Pan: Use a stiff brush or flat blade knife to clear grease and
debris from the grease channel to ensure smooth run-off of grease
and drippings into the grease drawer. Do this as often as necessary.
