Fitting the differential ossembly
(a)
Place the differential, fitted with beorings, i n the end of the gearbox
casting.
(b)
Secure the differential i n place using the two clamps
tightening the nuts by hand only.
(c)
Place new paper gaskets on the left-hand and right-hand drive shaft
assemblies, together with any shims removed dismantling.
Locate the drive shafts i n the planet wheel and align the screw holes.
F i t screws, taking care t o f i t the correct lengths and tighten.

Adjust the an the bearings.
NOTE:
The bearings must be fitted with a specific pre-load. This can be
checked by the torque required t o tom the differential.
(a)
To measure the torque f i x and a length o f cord around the
differential satellite Attach t o the free end
a spring balance so the satellite housing can be rotated when the
spring balance i s pulled.
(b)
Take a reading from the balance when the satellite housing
i s
just
t o rotate.
This
reading should be within the following limits
given for bearings which have previousl y been used and new bearings.
(i)
Bearings previously used should be within
4
t o
6
kg.
If
the
reading i s less than
4
kg, increase the thickness of the adjusting
washers. For readings i n excess of
6
k g reduce the thickness o f
the adjusting washers.
(ii)
N e w bearings should be within
6
t o
9
kg.
If
the reading i s less
than
6
increase the thickness o f the adjusting washers. For
readings i n of
9
reduce the thickness o f the
washers.
