Release handle with a rapid action.
A
slow release w i l l result i n a high
reading, which

caused by a small amount of internal friction stopping the
hook returning fully. Read off the tension i n pounds indicated by the pointer
the handle. Repeot several times to ensure a correct reading.

Rotate the engine crankshaft by hand approximately i n the direction
of rotation. Repeat operations
1, 2

taking the average
of
three
readings for the mean belt tension.

T.D.C.

with timing pointer. A t this point the marks on the sprocket should

Loosen the alternator fixing bolts and remove the
'V'
drive belt the
crankshaft
'V'
pulley.
For manual release the belt tension and remove the driving b e l t .
