Driving hints
Drive safely
When driving with your caravan, there are certain
special rules that must be followed:
– While the vehicle is in motion, no one should be
in the caravan.
– Before setting off on a journey, close all gas
shut-off valves apart from the appliances that
consume gas and are allowed to be used while
the vehicle is moving. In some countries only
the heater is allowed to run while the vehicle is
moving.
– Operation of gas appliances is not permitted at
service stations and on ferries.
– Close ventilator windows and roof lights
– Prior to setting off, check that all doors, flaps
and drawers are firmly locked and the awning*
has been completely wound in.
– All baggage and objects must be securely
stowed away in the caravan.
– The driving characteristics are different when
the caravan is loaded. Therefore it is essential to
modify one’s driving to the altered conditions.
– The four parking supports and the towbar
support wheel must be wound up and secured
before commencing a journey.
– When operating the caravan it should be noted
that two external mirrors have to be mounted
on the towing vehicle.
– Do not forget how wide your caravan is, espe-
cially when driving down narrow roads or pas-
sages.
– Before beginning a journey, check the lighting
and indicators to ensure they are working
properly.
– Before commencing a journey, any foliage, ice,
snow or similar should be removed from the
vehicle roof.
– Always adapt the driving speed to the traffic
conditions, the state of the road and the load in
the trailer.
– Especially on smooth, slippery roads, it must be
remembered that driving stability and braking
power depend on the adhesive properties of the
tyres.
– As the driving stability of the vehicle combina-
tion is reduced as the speed increases, under
unfavourable road, weather or wind conditions
(especially on sloping stretches) you should
drive well below the speed limit.
