41.2.3 Door Strike Wiring Using an External Relay
An external relay may be used to control a door strike. This external relay is controlled by the reader DOx
output on the LNL-1340-M2K.
If the LED in the reader is driven by the Reader port DOx signal, a blocking diode must be added to the
circuit. This blocking diode should be a Schottky barrier rectifier, type 1N5817 or equivalent (20 volt @ 1
A).
- The external relay’s coil current must be restricted to 40 mA.
- The 12 volt relay coil resistance must be 300 or greater ohms.
DC Door Strike Wiring
Suppression diode selection:
- Diode current rating: >1x strike current
- Diode breakdown voltage: 4x strike voltage
- For 12 VDC or 24 VDC strike, use diode 1N4002 (100 V/1 A) typical
