The brakes have to run totally freely up to the guide pulley and from there to the brake
handle. Next the mallions should be checked to ensure that they are all safely screwed
shut. Then check the speed system. The speed bar must be free and on launching should
not shorten the risers or cause stumbling. After positioning the harness check that the
glider is fully open behind you, all lines are free, the harness buckles are done up as stipu-
lated and that the carabineers are correctly fitted and if necessary that they are secured.
When the wind conditions are right and the airspace is clear then nothing is stopping you
from launching.
Launch checks in bullet points:
1. All harness clips, carabineers and helmet done up?
2. All lines free?
3. Opening edge open?
4. Surrounding air space free?
5. Wind strengths and direction ok?
11.2 Launch technique
You can easily get the Green b up in the air without great effort by equally pulling the A
risers (both Baby A risers are connected with a magnet and clasped together). When your
arms are stretched out behind you they lengthen the line to the shoulders and your hands
should hold the risers at the height of the mallions. Your arms guide the A riser to the apex,
without drastically shortening them, and at this point the pull on the risers also eases off.
The Green b quickly comes up over the pilot, without getting caught or passing the
pilot. Once the canopy is perpendicular over the pilot, the risers are released and the
brakes gently pulled. This allows for a calm and careful look for a final check at a constant
walking speed and Reduces the lift-off speed that is needed. The canopy is therefore also
stabilised against any type of relieving of the strain, for example from bumps. If the canopy
or lines show any irregularities, depending on conditions at the launch spot, you can try to
