Using the soldering iron, apply a light layer of solder to the ends of the wires.

Called “tinning the tips”, this process improves conductivity and makes soldering
both quicker and easier.

Using the side cutters, cut the heat-shrink tubes to the right size.

Allow for at least a 1/4″ overlap over the existing insulation.
