mx+b
The mx+b math operation lets you manipulate normal display readings (x) mathematically based on
the following calculation:
mx + b = Y
Where:
•
m
is a user-defined constant for the scale factor
•
x
is the measurement reading (if you are using a relative offset, this is the measurement with
relative offset applied)
•
b
is a user-defined constant for the offset factor
•
Y
is the displayed result
When the mx+b math operation is active, the unit of measure for the front-panel voltage and current
readings is
X
and the MATH indicator is displayed to the right of the measurement. For resistance
readings, the units of measure do not change. You cannot change this units designator.
Set the relative offset using mX+b
You can use the mX+b function to manually establish a relative offset value. To do this, set the scale
factor (m) to 1 and set the offset (b) to the offset value. Each subsequent reading will be the
difference between the actual input and the offset value.
Set mX+b units from the front panel
The attribute for mX+b must be one character. It can be any letter of the alphabet, the degrees
symbol (°), the micro symbol (µ), or the ohms symbol (Ω).
To set mX+B units from the front panel:
The following procedure sets MXBUNITS. You can change the other MATH menu options
(BFACTOR and MFACTOR) by changing the b and m values.
1. Press the
CONFIG
key.
2. Press the
DMM
key.
3. Turn the navigation wheel to highlight the
MATH
menu item.
4. With
MATH
highlighted, press the
ENTER
key. The MATH MENU opens.
5. Select the
MXBUNITS
menu item.
6. With
MXBUNITS
highlighted, press the
ENTER
key.
7. Press the navigation wheel to enter EDIT mode.
8. Scroll until the correct character is displayed, and then press the
ENTER
key. The MATH MENU
opens.
9. From the MATH MENU, turn the navigation wheel to highlight and select the
ENABLE
menu
item.
10. Select
ON
and press the
