Reducing Measurement Error by Avoiding Cable Bending
Appendix F: Reducing Measurement
Error by Avoiding Cable Bending
It is important to avoid bends or other cable irregularities when performing tests since they can
affect the impedance of twisted-pair cables. The following scope displays show the results of
bending approximately 1 meter of CAT5 Twisted-Pair Cable connected to a differential TDR plug-
in on a Tektronix 11801 oscilloscope. Split Dot Cursor positions are fixed at the fifth and seventh
graticles (cursors at 23.025ns and 23.225ns).
