C1
Each printhead has seven solenoids to control piston movement. When a piston
[D]
pulls back, it allows
ink
[M]
to flow between the membrane
[N]
and through the center of the chamber plate post
[I]
. Ink
flows into the orifice plate and ejects as droplets
[P]
each time the solenoid
[C]
is electrically energized.
A controlled voltage applied to the solenoid coil causes linear movement of the piston. Increasing or
decreasing individual solenoid drive voltages— “pulse width” settings—increases or decreases droplet
volume and dot diameters. Operating pressure must be maintained at 7 psi to achieve consistent
droplet volume and dot diameter.
