Printhead Operation
Ink flows into the printhead through an inlet filter

a back plate

chamber plate and is sealed by the piston applying a force, to push the membrane against the chamber

. The membrane sealing force (pre-load) is initially adjusted to seal against ink pressure at
9 psi to prevent static leakage at the normal operating pressure of 7 psi. This “pre-load” adjustment
controls the amount of force the piston

applies to the membrane. Rotating the red adjustment nut

sets the pre-load pressure by moving the entire solenoid assembly in a linear movement, to
increase or decrease piston loading on the membrane (clockwise to decrease pre-load, counter
clockwise to increase pre-load).
