Safety instructions
The basic safety instructions below to protect against
electric shock, injuries and fire must be heeded when using
power tools.
Read all of these instructions before you use this power tool
and keep the safety instructions in a safe place.
ƒ Make yourself familiar with the equipment before using it,
by reading and understanding the operating instructions.
ƒ Always use the right power tool.
− Do not use machines for high-duty work for which
they are not rated.
− Do not use the machine for unsuitable purposes (see
“Normal intended use”).

Do not use the power tool for purposes for which it is
not meant.
Example: Do not use a portable circular saw for
cutting branches or wood billets.
ƒ Mount the machine on a non-skid and level ground.
ƒ Avoid abnormal posture. Ensure that you have stand in a
secure standing position and maintain your balance at all
times.
ƒ
Be attentive. Be careful what you do. Behave sensibly
when working. Do not use the device when you are tired or
under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medicaments. One
moment of carelessness when using the device can result
in serious injuries.
ƒ
Wear suitable work clothes!
− do not wear loose-fitting clothes or jewellery; they can
catch in moving parts.

Gloves and slip-proof shoes
− wear a hair-net if your hair is long
ƒ Wear protective clothing:
− safety goggles
− ear protection (Sound intensity level at workplace can
exceed 85 dB (A))
−
dust mask
ƒ Keep your workplace in an orderly condition ! Untidiness
can result in accidents.
ƒ Take into consideration environmental influences :
− Do not use the device in moist or wet ambience.
− Do not expose the chain sharpener to rain .
− Do only work with sufficient visibility conditions. Provide
for good
illumination .

Do not use power tools in hazardous areas (fire and
explosion risk).
ƒ
Never leave the operational machine unattended .
ƒ Persons under the age of 18 must not operate the device.
ƒ
Keep other persons away.
Do not allow other persons, especially children , to touch
the tool or cable .
Keep them away from your working area.
ƒ
Do not overload the machine! You work better and safer in
the
given performance range .
ƒ Replace the guide plate if it is damaged.
ƒ
Only operate the machine with complete and correctly
attached
safety equipment and do not alter anything on
the machine that could impair the safety.
ƒ
Make sure that the grinding wheel is correctly secured
and tightened before each use of the chain sharpener.
Then, allow the machine to idle for 30 sec. while keeping a
safe distance. When strong vibrations occur, immediately
turn off the machine and replace the grinding wheel.
ƒ Secure the workpiece.
− Use clamping devices or a vice to fix the workpiece.
This will hold it safer than you can with your hand.
ƒ
Do not use any grinding wheels which do not comply with
the indicated characteristics of this instruction manual.
The use of other tools and other accessories may
present a risk of injury to you.
ƒ
Do not use grinding wheels that are designed for a lower
max. speed (see the indication on the grinding wheel) than
the motor speed (see the technical data).
ƒ
Worn and defective grinding wheels (cracks, imbalance,
chipping, etc.) must be replaced immediately.
ƒ
Do not use a grinding wheel that felt down previously. Even
if it seems that there are no damages on it, it may be more
prone to breaking.
ƒ
Ensure a firm seat of the grinding wheel.
ƒ
Switch the machine off and remove the mains plug from
the socket when
− carrying out repair works
− maintenance and cleaning
− Elimination of failures (including freeing a blocked
grinding wheel)

Storage
− Leaving the chain sharpener (even in case of short-
term interruptions)
ƒ Do not try to remove/insert a workpiece while the grinding
wheel is running.
ƒ Caution! Grinding wheel runs after! Do not brake the
grinding wheel by hand or using lateral pressure.
ƒ
Maintain your chain sharpener with care:
−
Keep your cutting tools sharp and clean in order to be
able to work better and safer.
−
Regularly check the mains cable of the power tool and
have it replaced by a recognised expert if it is
damaged.
− Keep the device free of oil and grease.
−
Follow the maintenance instructions and the
instructions for tool exchange.
ƒ Check the machine for possible damage :
− Before further use of the machine the safety devices
and any parts that show minor damages must be
checked carefully for their proper and intended function.
− Check whether the movable parts function perfectly
and do not stick or whether the parts are damaged. All
parts must be properly mounted and all conditions met
to ensure the flawless operation of the chain sharpener.
− Unless otherwise indicated in the operating instructions,
damaged safety devices and parts must be properly
repaired or replaced by an authorised workshop (or by
the manufacturer).
− Damaged or illegible safety warning labels should be
replaced immediately.
