Before operating the engine for the first time, please review the
SAFETY INFORMATION section on page
and the
BEFORE
OPERATION CHECKS on page
Review the instructions provided with the equipment powered by
this engine for any safety precautions that should be observed
with engine startup, shutdown or operation.
Carbon monoxide gas is toxic. Breathing it can cause
unconsciousness and even kill you.
Avoid any areas or actions that expose you to carbon
monoxide.
ELECTRIC STARTER TYPES:
If the electric starter will not operate:
Turn the engine switch to the
START position, and hold it
there until the engine starts.
The engine switch opens the
fuel valve and operates the
automatic choke.
Warm up the engine for 2 or 3
minutes.
When the engine starts,
release the engine switch,
allowing it to return to the ON
position.
Using the electric starter for
more than 5 seconds at a time
will overheat the starter
motor and can damage it.
If the engine fails to start
within 5 seconds, release the
engine switch, and wait at
least 10 seconds before
operating the starter again.
Some engine applications do
not include the engine-
mounted engine switch
shown here. Refer to the
instructions provided by the
equipment manufacturer.
(with recoil starter types)
Push the manual start lever.
Pull the starter grip lightly until you feel resistance, then pull
briskly in the direction of the arrow as shown below. Return the
starter grip gently.
Turn the engine switch to the ON position.
Do not move the manual start lever after the engine starts.
Warm up the engine for 2 or 3 minutes.
Do not allow the starter grip to snap back against the engine.
Return it gently to prevent damage to the starter.
