6 Control and operation
This chapter contains important information on handling the unit.
Please follow these notes to avoid dangers and damages.
6.1 Before switching on
6.1.1 Inspection on the unit
Examine the unit for external damage.
Check the water level before and after
•
switching on the unit
•
connecting the water pad.
The water level must be between both marks on the water level
indicator (6), preferably just below the maximum mark. The filling
difference between both marks is approx. 0.5 litre.
Top up sterile filtered tap water to which a germicidal agent has
been added, if
•
the water level is below the minimum mark.
•
you want to connect an empty water pad and the water level is
below the maximum mark.
6.1.2 Water pads
•
Only connect original HICO hose extensions with HICO water
pads to the HICO-VARIOTHERM 550.
•
Check the water pads for external damage before connecting.
Use only undamaged pads.
•
Prepare a collecting basin in case a pad should start leaking.
•
Use a thin fleece between the water pad and the patient's skin.
