1. Pre-Flight Checks
CAUTION:
INSTRUCTIONS AND PROCEDURES IN
THIS SECTION MAY INVOLVE PROPELLER
CRITICAL PARTS. REFER TO THE
INTRODUCTION CHAPTER OF THIS
MANUAL FOR INFORMATION ABOUT
PROPELLER CRITICAL PARTS. REFER TO
THE ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST CHAPTER
OF THE APPLICABLE OVERHAUL MANUAL(S)
FOR THE IDENTIFICATION OF SPECIFIC
PROPELLER CRITICAL PARTS.
Follow propeller preflight inspection procedures as specified in
the Pilot Operating Handbook (POH). In addition, perform the
following inspections:
A. Blades
(1) Visually inspect the entire blade (lead, trail, face, and
camber sides) for nicks, gouges, and cracks.
(a) Refer to the Maintenance Practices chapter of this
manual, for blade repair information.
(b) Normal blade lead edge erosion (sand-blasted
appearance) is acceptable, and does not require
removal before further flight.
(2) Visually inspect the blades for lightning strike.
(a) Refer to the Lightning Strike Damage section in this
chapter for a description of damage.
B. Inspect the spinner and visible blade retention components
for damage or cracks.
(1) Repair or replace components as required before further
flight.
C. Check for loose/missing hardware. Retighten or reinstall as
necessary.
