Description
Time Base
Length of time, in seconds, between two weight readings that are subtracted to determine the initial flow
rate. Use the left and right arrows or bar to select a value.
Increasing the time base increases the time between weight readings. This allows more material to be
dispensed during the time base period. The time base needs to be sufficient to ensure a weight change is
determined at the end of each period. Low flow rates require a longer time base than high flow rates.
The application controller measures weight to better than 1 part in 10,000. Generally, Time Base should
be greater than (scale capacity/10000)/low rate (units per second).
Example: (440/10,000) = 0.44lb increments the lowest set point in units per second @ 1lb per minute is:
1lb/60 seconds = 0.0166lb/seconds.
As a result, time base = 0.044/0/0166 = 2.65 (rounded to 3), then minimum time base = 3 seconds.
This time base is divided into 100 segments read over the 3-second time base. This adds a new weight
reading every 30ms and recalculates the ROC in a rolling-average scheme.
