We recommend a receiver battery of at least 3 Ah capacity, which should be properly
prepared before use and maintained during its life, i.e. the pack must be charged and
discharged (cycled) several times before it reaches its full stated capacity.
We deliberately recommend the use of rechargeable batteries for the receiver and
transmitter, as they offer the widest margin of safety in use.
Please see the main FS catalogue for details of suitable battery chargers.
Use foam rubber to pack round the receiver.
All pushrods for the ailerons, elevator and aero-tow release should be cut to the
correct length from the M2.5 studding (threaded rod) supplied in the kit.
Assembling the DISCUS 2 cT
Please don’t start work on the model until you have read through the instructions and
have a clear understanding of the purpose of the various components and the
individual stages of construction. If you are not satisfied with the quality of any part,
take it back to your model shop for replacement before modifying it in any way.
The fuselage
Areas of the fuselage which are to be glued must be rubbed down using glasspaper
until the surfaces have an overall
matt
finish (see the note following the Adhesives
table).
Before you start construction, it is important to decide whether you intend to install a
retractable wheel.
If so, you have to rip out the landing flaps from the fuselage, using a cut-in saw,
strictly speaking 2mm outside the marking on the fuselage underside.
Sand the edges of the wheel doors lightly, and attach them to the fuselage using two
lengths of 1.5 mm Ø steel rod as shown. Check that both doors open and close
smoothly; you may need to carry out further light sanding to prevent them ‘catching’.
Glue two 4.3 Ø x 9 Ø washers to the inside of the fuselage to act as stops; these
ensure that the wheel doors close flush with the outside of the fuselage.
Check that the wheel doors still operate smoothly.
Take care not to glue the doors to the fuselage!
Allow the epoxy to set hard before attaching the closing springs to the wheel doors.
Two torsion springs have to be bent to shape from steel wire: be sure to make a
handed pair (different left and right).
The torsion springs should be about 15 mm shorter than the wheel doors.
The torsion springs are glued in place as shown in the photograph. Take great care
to avoid gluing the wheel doors to the fuselage!
The next step is to screw the retract servo and the servo mounting brackets to the
retract unit itself, as shown in the next set of photos.
