Replacing ETHER-1000 Unit in a System in Service
WARNING
Prior to unit replacement, ensure that the replacement unit is loaded with
the same firmware version as the unit to be replaced.
NOTE: Since all the units shipped to the customers after June 2011 (including
those returned after repair) will be loaded with V3 firmware, it is recommended
that all customers using V1 and V2 units upgrade their ETHER-1000 systems
to V3 at their earliest convenience. See Appendix F for details.
Removing an ETHER-1000 unit
1. Use a local VistaNET connection to display the unit configuration.
2. Click on
Copy
button (available at the bottom of the Unit View). This copies
the local unit‟s configurable parameters to the VistaNET clipboard.
3. Use the extractor on the face plate of the unit to ease the unit from the shelf
and disconnect the CBW port cable(s) from the unit's top plate.
Inserting a Replacement ETHER-1000 Unit
WARNING
Inserting the ETHER-1000 unit into a working position without ACK
button pressed may cause traffic disruption in an in-service system!
WARNING
Do not use the extractor to force the unit into the shelf as this could
result in damage to the extractor.
NOTE
ETHER-1000 unit set for High Security Mode (default) will allow non-
administrators to configure only SONET-path related parameters. See
Security Mode
field description on page 71.
1. With the ACK button pressed, gently insert the ETHER-1000 unit into the
shelf by pressing the front panel. (Ensure the extractor is not preventing the
unit from insertion.) When inserted with ACK button pressed, the ETHER-
1000 unit is in the "Sleep State" with the interrupts enabled; any earlier
programming on this ETHER-1000 unit is disabled at this point. (Note, the
unit need not be inserted with the ACK button pressed if the user is sure that
the unit is programmed correctly, i.e. the same as the previously removed
unit.)
