Problem
Possible Reason
The Solution
The machine is making an
unusual loud and continu-
ous pumping noise.
Not enough water in the
water tank.
Fill the water tank. The filling level must be between
250ml (MIN) and 1800ml (MAX).
The water tank is not
inserted correctly.
Push the water tank down at the back of the appliance
until the outer sides of the water tank lie in straight line
with the housing of the appliance.
The coffee is week and
watery.
The coffee powder has been
ground too coarsely.
Use coffee powder suited for espresso machines. See: >Tips
for Best Results<. Pre-ground coffee powder is labelled
accordingly.
The coffee is too cold.
The machine did not reach
the correct operating tem-
perature.
Before starting an extraction, always wait until the
POWER button is illuminated continuously (not flashing).
You did not pre-heat the
cups.
Rinse the cups via the hot water function, or place your
cups onto the warming plate on top of the machine,
before starting an extraction. Try to pre-heat the portafil-
ter as well via the hot water function.
The milk is not hot enough
(if making cappuccino or
latté etc).
Use the provided milk jug for texturing milk. During ope-
ration, hold your hand on the milk jug to feel the tempe-
rature. The milk is sufficiently hot, when the bottom of
the milk jug gets too hot for touching it.
No crema.
The coffee powder is not
tamped firmly enough.
Apply the correct pressure (15-20kg) when tamping the
coffee powder. See: >Tips for Best Results<.
The coffee powder is too
coarse.
Use coffee powder suited for espresso machines. See:
>Tips for Best Results<. Pre-ground coffee powder is
labelled accordingly.
The coffee powder is stale.
Use freshly ground coffee beans. Store coffee powder in
an airtight container. However, do not store it for more
than 1 week.
The filter basket is clogged, Clean the filter basket. You may open clogged holes in
the filter mesh via a needle or fine pin. See: >Care and
Cleaning<.
