increasing to full pressure. This way the coffee powder gently expands, giving a more
even extraction. This will enable top-quality extraction of the oils and flavours of the cof-
fee powder leading to the optimum taste.
AFTER EXTRACTION—EMPTYING THE PORTAFILTER
WARNING:
The metal parts of the portafilter will be very hot during use and there-
after. Only touch the portafilter by the black handle. Cool the portafilter in cold water
before touching the portafilter or filter basket with your hands.
15. After the extraction, first remove your filled vessel from the drip tray and place it on
the warming plate.
16. Remove the portafilter from the group head. For this, hold the portafilter by the black
handle, ensuring not to touch the metal parts. Rotate the portafilter to the INSERT
position to unlock it and lower it down from the group head.
17. Empty the portafilter by holding it upside down and hitting the coffee grinds out. Dis-
pose of the coffee grinds in domestic waste or degradable organic waste. Do not
dispose of the grinds in the sink to avoid clogging the outlet pipe.
18. The filter basket is locked within the portafilter via a spring. To remove the filter
basket from the portafilter, lift the filter basket by the notch at the side of the porta-
filter.
19. Rinse the filter basket and portafilter with clear tap water, wipe dry, and leave dry
naturally.
TEXTURING MILK—STEAM FUNCTION
WARNING—RISK OF BURNS!
Shortly after operation, the steam wand will be
very hot and hot steam and hot water could escape from the steam wand. Do not hold
your hands near the steam wand tip. Always ensure that the steam wand points to the
drip tray, when not in use.
Children must always be supervised when they are
near the espresso machine.
Note:
For optimum milk texturing performance it is critical that the hole in the steam wand tip
is clear. A blocked hole may affect the ability of the steam wand to produce a satisf-
actory amount of froth. Prior to texturing milk, always purge the steam wand by shortly
turning the control dial to the right steam position. Keep a clean, damp cloth at hand
to wipe the steam wand after usage.
