CARD VALIDATION COMMANDS
OVERVIEW
Card validation commands allow you to control access to your system (perform lockout) by
validating/invalidating a user’s card(s). There are three possible lockout scenarios you can use:
●
Standard lockout, which provides lockout by the CARD NUMBER.
●
Dual Lockout option, which provides lockout by the CARD NUMBER or an additional 4-digit
field (ID FIELD 1 or ID FIELD 2) that you designate.
●
Dual Lockout and Manual Keypad Entry option with manual entry lockout, which provides
lockout by CARD NUMBER or 4-digit manual entry.
The files in which valid and invalid card numbers are stored are called the lockout files. Systems
using standard lockout have one file; systems using dual lockout have two (one for card numbers
and another for the second field).
There are two lockout file arrangements:
●
a negative card file, where you validate all cards and invalidate individual cards, or
●
a positive card file, where you invalidate all cards and validate individual card numbers.
For example, suppose you choose a negative card file where all cards are valid and you have
users who don’t pay their bills or no longer have privileges at your site. To deny these users
access to the system, you would use the IC command and invalidate all their card numbers (or
additional lockout field values). These users are then LOCKED OUT and will receive this
message the next time they attempt to fuel.
Conversely, suppose you choose a positive card file, where all cards are invalid. In order to allow
access to users on your system, you would use the VC command for each card number (or
additional lockout field value) to be made active.
Users’ cards can be validated/invalidated individually, in strings of up to twenty assorted card
numbers (or additional lockout field values), or by ranges of consecutive card numbers (or
additional lockout field values). If desired the system can lock out or allow access to the entire file
of 10,000 users. The system can alo be configured to lock out a card when a user tries to enter a
PIN number unsuccessfully three consecutive times.
