AUTOMATIC FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM
BASIC AUTOPILOT OPERATION
This section provides an overview for autopilot engagement and disengagement. A more detailed description
follows in Section 7.5.
•
Autopilot Engagement
— The autopilot may be engaged by pushing the
AP Key
on the AFCS Control Unit.
Annunciations regarding the engagement are indicated on the PFD.
•
Autopilot Engagement with Flight Director Off
— Upon engagement, the autopilot will be set to hold the
current attitude of the airplane, if the flight director was not previously on. In this case, ‘PIT’ and ‘ROL’ will be
annunciated.
•
Autopilot Engagement with Flight Director On
— If the flight director is on, the autopilot will smoothly
pitch and roll the airplane to capture the FD command bars. The prior flight directore modes remain unchanged.

Autopilot Disengagement
— The most common way to disconnect the autopilot is to press and release the
AP DISC
Switch
, which is located on each control wheel. An autopilot disconnect tone will be heard and
annunciated on the PFD. Other ways to disconnect the autopilot include:
– Pressing the
AP Key
on the AFCS Control Unit
– Pressing the
GA Switch
(located on the throttle.)
– Operating the
MEPT Switch
(located on the each control wheel)
– Pulling the autopilot circuit breaker
In the event of unexpected autopilot behavior, pressing and holding the
AP DISC
Switch
will disconnect the
autopilot and remove all power to the servos.
