Physical sector address format defect descriptor
Figure 3.25 shows this description format of the defect descriptor. A defect descriptor with this
format specifies the physical sector number of the data block which includes the defect on the
disk media together with the cylinder No. and the head (track) No. When specifying multiple
defect descriptors, the cylinder No. must be specified in the top position and the physical sector
No. in the bottom position, with the defect positions listed in ascending order.
Note:
Sector numbers described in this format are physical sector numbers which to not apply the
“Track skew factor” and the “Cylinder skew factor.”
Also, even if X’FFFFFFFF’ is specified as the byte distance from the index to the defect
position, a whole track cannot be considered defective.
