ORL - Return Loss Reference
ORL reference characterizes/calibrates the upper and lower back-reflection limits.
Clean all fiber optic connectors and optical ports before performing test procedures described below.
Step I: 14.6 dB Referencing - setting the upper ORL limit
1 From the [ORL REFERENCE] screen, use either [UP] or [DOWN] arrow key highlight the
[14.6 dB REF] option.
2 Press the [SELECT] soft key to access the [CONNECT 14.6 REF CABLE] screen.
3 Press the [

to select the desired wavelength to be referenced.
4 Clean the Test port and connectors on the reference cable.
5 Attach the APC connector on the reference cable to the Test Port. Use a dust cap for covering UPC
connector to prevent ambient light.
6 From the [CONNECT 14.6 REF CABLE] screen, press the [SET] soft key to set the upper ORL
limit.
7 If the display reads [NOT VERIFIED] followed by two beeps (if the beeper function is enabled), clean
and inspect connectors and Test port, and then repeat step 6.
8 If the display reads [UNWRAP VERIFIED] followed by a beep, the value is accepted.
