7.Terminal (CLI) Management
This section deals with managing your GSM1010M system through either the serial
connection or a Telnet connection.
In order to obtain serial communication with the device you need to connect the serial
cable supplied with the GSM1010M between the device (miniDIN side) and a serial
port on the PC with the terminal emulation (on the DB9 side). Start the emulation
program and reset the device (recommended).
If you wish to manage your system through Telnet, you will need to have network
connectivity to the GSM1010M device using its Ethernet socket. A Telnet session may
be started at any time after the GSM1010M has initialized (indicated by the ‘Ready’
LED constant lit).
In both methods, you will be prompted for a user name and password.
After system initialization and correct login you will get to the system’s main menu and
the command line prompt. In most cases you will be able to navigate through the menu
system and configure your devices by choosing numbered options. There are several
commands that you may need to use in certain configurations, or for your own
convenience. These commands are listed in the next section.
Notice that the status display for the device and remote devices contains the firmware
revision. This display depends on the actual devices deployed. If the device does not
support this feature (one of an older revision) the display will read: ‘Firmware revision:
n/a’.
The status display of TP links may have one of 3 states: ‘On’, ‘Off’ or ‘Killed’ (‘Kld’ in
some models). The latter refers to the case in which the TP link was killed (forced
down) by the system, mostly as a result of the LST/SLE mechanisms’ operation.
When performing major actions in the system, such as restoring the entire
GSM1010M’s default configuration; the user is prompted for confirmation. The required
confirmation code to trigger the action is 26974.
Available commands
Following is a short list of the main commands available for use in the CLI. Some are
required in specific settings. The rest are for convenience purposes only. Menu based
actions are done through using numbers.
All other commands are detailed in the CLI command reference manual.
•
set
Used for configurations that require large numbers, hexadecimal values and strings.
For numbers: set 123
For hexadecimal values: set 0x3A
For strings: set ‘koko and steve’
For IP address: set 192.168.1.18
•
remote
Allows direct access to a certain remote device.
•
a

where a configuration option is selected but the user decides to abort this
configuration. Instead of entering the required value, the user needs to merely use this
command.
•
?
Used to display the current menu. If the menu has been pushed out of the screen and
is no longer visible, or partially visible, using this command will display it again.
