INPUT/OUTPUT INTERFACE (PCM-1)
OVERVIEW
The PCM-1 is equipped with 8 inputs and 4 outputs that are optically isolated and operate on +10
to +30 VDC. Each input and output has 2 screw terminals associated with it to provide for either
sinking or sourcing operation. The first 8 pairs of designated terminals are inputs and the last 4
pairs of terminals are outputs. The outputs are capable of sinking or sourcing a maximum of 200
mA. The user is responsible for limiting the output current to less than or equal to 200 mA.
Adding the PCM-1 module will double the I/O capabilities of the standard 520 PMC. The
number of input lines are increased from 8 to 16 and the number of output lines are increased
from 4 to 8.
These inputs and outputs allow for proper timing and coordination between the drives, motion,
and other machine control functions. The inputs and outputs can be connected to the machine's
programmable logic controller (PLC) or relay logic system. These inputs and outputs can also be
connected to limit switches, or switches and indicators on an operator's control panel.
A large number of input/output control functions are provided. The functions needed can be
assigned to any of the input/output lines. This is accomplished through either serial interface
commands or by using the PCX software provided with the drive. Inputs may be programmed as
normally off or normally on. More than one function may be assigned to the same input line.
After the I/O lines have been set to the desired configuration, power should be cycled to the 520
PMC to ensure proper I/O operation. Each 520 comes from the factory with the inputs and
outputs predefined for frequently used I/O configurations.
