Chapter 13 Cleaning, Care and Maintenance

CAUTION

1. Turn off the power before cleaning and disinfection. The mains supply must be

switched off if it is used.

2. Prevent the detergent from seeping into the equipment.

13.1 Cleaning

CAUTION

Any remainder of detergent should be removed from the unit and the patient cable after

cleaning.

13.1.1 Cleaning the Main Unit and the Patient Cable

To clean the cardiograph:

Unplug the AC power cord.

Wipe the external surfaces of the electrocardiograph with a soft cloth dampened in any of the
approved cleaning solutions listed below.

To clean the patient cable:

Dampen a soft cloth with one of the disinfectants or cleaning agents listed below.

Wring excess moisture from the cloth before cleaning.

Recommended Cleaning Solutions

Mild soap and water

75% alcohol

13.1.2 Cleaning the Reusable Electrodes

Remove the remainder gel from the electrodes with a clean soft cloth first.

Take suction bulbs and metal cups of chest electrodes apart, and take clamps and metal parts
of limb electrodes apart.

Clean them in warm water and make sure there is no remainder gel.

Dry the electrodes with a clean dry cloth or air dry naturally.
