Surging RPM.

Trapped air in propeller

piston.

Oil sludge in system.

Wrong speeder spring in

governor.

Speeder spring in governor

too weak.

Improper pitch setting in

propeller.

Abrupt movement of prop

control or throttle control.

Oscillation of tachometer.

Move propeller speed lever at least twice

before flight at about 4000 RPM with a drop of

about 1000 RPM.

Contact repair station to clean oil lines in

engine, cylinder, propeller and governor.

Check governor designation.

5 periods of surging with low amplitude are

acceptable. If governor does not stabilize then,

contact repair station.

Check propeller pitch setting.

Check static RPM.

Move controls slowly and smoothly.

Check tachometer and drive.

Differences in

RPM during

climb, cruise and

descent without

propeller speed

control lever

movement.

Up to ± 100 RPM are

system inherent. If this value

is exceeded:

Friction in propeller or

governor.

Defective RPM indicator.

Contact propeller manufacturer.

Replace.
