9.1.3.2 Coordinate systems
The application supports several coordinate reference systems (CRS).
Cartesian
ECEF (Earth-Centered, Earth-Fixed, also known as ECR, Earth-Centered Rotational), is a
cartesian coordinate frame (X, Y, Z) relative to the Earth's center of mass. Positions in RINEX
Processing images for high accuracy (PPK) on page 67
.
Geodetic
Geodetic datums use geographic coordinates (longitude, latitude, altitude), with reference to
an ellipsoidal representation of Earth.
Regarding the longitude and latitude, the geodetic datum may be global (representing the
entire Earth), or local (representing an ellipsoid best-fit to only a portion of the Earth).
Height references may either be based on the ellipsoid, or on geoids (modelling the surface
of the Earth and sea-level globally or locally).
Projected
These coordinate systems are flat, two-dimensional representations of the Earth (easting,
northing, altitude), based on a projection from an ellipsoid representation to a plane.
Regarding the easting and northing axis, the projection may be global (representing the
entire Earth), or regional (applicable to specific local areas only).
Height references may either be based on the ellipsoid, or on geoids (modelling the surface
of the Earth globally or locally).
9.1.3.2.1
Configuring the preferred coordinate system
After installation, the application uses WGS84 (EPSG:4326) with ellipsoidal height as default
geographic coordinate system.
The preferred coordinate system is used for:
• Showing coordinates on mouse position;
• Showing image coordinates and metadata in the
Selection
panel;
• Setting the default coordinate system for PPK base station settings;
• Setting the default coordinate system for dataset export.
Set your preferred coordinate system as described hereafter.
1
Open the
Help
>
Options
menu.
2
Go to the
Coordinate system
tab.
3
Select a coordinate system type (geodetic, projected or cartesian).
4
For geodetic or projected coordinate systems, select the horizontal and vertical components,
browsing through the list of supported systems or filter them by their name or EPSG code.
9.1.3.2.2
Showing coordinates on mouse position
When the
Window
>
Map decorations
>
Mouse position
configuration option is enabled, the
application displays the coordinates of the mouse pointer when the map is hovered.
