FAMILIARISATION WITH RIG OPERATION
Having completed the initial check over it is recommended that a short period
be spent in becoming thoroughly familiar with the actual handling of the
controls and running of the rig. At this stage, no drilling equipment would be
used and activities would include such events as starting/stopping engine,
positioning the levelling jacks, raising and lowering the mast, controlling the
movement of the rotary head, controlling the winch etc. Also on initial start-up
of the engine it is advisable to walk around the rig and check that there are
no hydraulic leaks from hose fittings.
Never attempt to use the machine unless all guards are in place.
For starting instructions please refer to the Engine Manual.
Before attempting to track the machine, please ensure that all locking pins
are in position (Items 6, 7 & 20 Drg PST2000/F/200).
Ensure Hydraulic Flow Control Valve is fully open (Item 26 Drg TAV.11
96614710) and PTO Valve is in ‘On’ position (Item 33 Drg TAV.11 96614710)

SOIL SAMPLING
To set the rig up ready for drilling, slot the two front legs into the base of the
mast & secure with the locking pins.
Remove the mast locking pin (Item 7 Drg PST2000/F/200) and raise the mast
(Control Lever B). Then remove the frame slide locking pins (Item 6 Drg
PST2000/F/200). Now adjust alignment to vertical position using mast raising
lever (Control Lever B).
Level the machine by adjusting the front leg screws (when drilling over soft
ground please ensure that the leg screws are supported).
Raise the carriage to the top of its travel by pulling the carriage control lever
on valve situated on left side of the superstructure.
Place barrel /casing, fitted with lifting plug, under the raised carriage and
slowly lower the carriage till the drive button fits into the lifting plug. Screw the
lifting plug connector to the lifting plug. Lower the carriage ram to the bottom
on its travel.
Ensuring that the area is clear you can start to drill. To operate pull the
weight control lever (Control Lever A); speed of weight can be adjusted by
engine throttle control. Ensure that weight firmly hits anvil before the pick -up
dog re-connects (suggested speed is 40 blows per minute).
Stop the weight when the carriage is at the bottom of its travel by pushing the
control lever into the neutral position.
