RS485 KIT - INTERFACE FOR CENTRALISED MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
ACCESSORIES
DESCRIPTION
The RS485 kit is an interface for connecting the HB or
i-HB main board to an RS485 serial line for integration
into a BMS supervision system using the MODBUS
RTU Master protocol.
The fan coils can be integrated into centralised hydronic
and systems compatible with the Modbus RTU proto-
col. The RS485 interface kit is installed on the HB or
i-HB power board, which in turn must be fitted on the
fan coil.
The interface is powered directly by the power board.
The fan coil control unit is not required for manage-
ment in centralised systems. The RS485 kit features
plug&play installation, consequently no parameters
need to be set.
For management in centralised systems with Mas-
ter-Slave connection (2-wire bus), only 1 RS485 expan-
sion board needs to be installed.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
- The expansion is fitted with a screw terminal block
for connecting wires with a maximum cross-section
of 2.5 mm².
- Before making the electrical connections, power to
the fan coil must be disconnected.
- The safety extra low voltage (SELV) RS-485 cables
must be kept well separated from the power cables.
OPERATING CONDITIONS
- In compliance with safety legislation in force, the
RS485 kit must be installed and used according to
the instructions provided on the instruction sheet.
- The device is suitable to be installed on appliances
for residential and/or similar uses and has been test-
ed in relation to safety based the reference harmo-
nised European standards.
CONNECTION PROCEDURE
When installing the bus cable always observe the
standards in force.
- Shielded cable should be used (e.g. Belden mod-
el 8762 with PVC sheath, 2 wires plus sleeve, 20
AWG, rated capacitance between wires 89 pF, rated
capacitance between one wire and the other wires
connected to the shield 161 pF).
- The length of the RS485 bus cable network must not
exceed 2000 m.
Always install the 120 Ω, 0.25 W resistor between
terminals “+” and “-” on the last expansion.
The two RS485 ports allow two or more RS485 kits
in the network to be connected together, thus guar-
anteeing continuity of the network and avoiding
having to connect multiple wires to the same termi-
nal.
