Areas
Areas define the geographic locations (usually nursing units or groups of nursing
units) associated with stations and users. You must assign each station and user-
defined device in the Pyxis MedStation system to an area.
Primary Nursing Units defines which units will go to such devices as Pyxis
Anesthesia System or Pyxis
®
DuoStation
. These are devices that are not
compatible with the expanded nurse feature.
Adding a nursing unit
Nursing units are normally created automatically when an ADT interface is
activated. If nursing units do not exist in the system, you must create them
manually before you can define areas. In Pyxis MedStation 4000 system SR3,
you can select more than six nursing units to be assigned to one area to a
maximum of 15 units.
1. Select
System Setup > Area Configuration > Areas
.
WARNING
The association of Nurse Units to Areas governs how the system routes
messages to dispensing devices. Increasing the number of Nursing Units
per Area multiplies the number of destinations that receive the messages
for a patient and their activities. There is a tradeoff between widely
broadcasting the information vs. the potential to slow the system.
If you see delays in message processing after increasing the number of
Nursing Units per Area, contact your local Pyxis support specialist for
additional guidance for configuring your system with more or fewer
Nursing Units per Area.
NOTE
The Room & Bed option listed in the System Setup > Area Configuration menu is
not used. However, you can assign a room and bed number to a patient (for more
information, see
Adding a patient file on page 80
).
