Pyxis MedStation 4000 System Console User Guide

Pyxis Nurse Link overview

Pyxis Nurse Link is an integrated application that enables you to view, select, and 
queue orders. The Pyxis Nurse Link application is used in the hospital 
environment to enable the clinician to review necessary medication information.

Using Pyxis Nurse Link, you can queue medications for timely dispensing and 
also display patient alerts provided by the MedMined™ Patient Event Advisor 
system. The Remote Waste feature allows you to document medication waste 
remotely. During implementation, CareFusion representatives will add a new 
device called 

NURSELINK

 that will enable Pyxis Nurse Link functionality.

Waste process

Pyxis Nurse Link displays and processes all remove transactions and transfer 
transactions performed at the station. It allows the user to select a remove 
transaction or medication to document waste remotely through three methods—
Removed  Meds, All Meds, and Undocumented Waste.

Removed Meds

The remove transaction list displays a list of removed items from the Pyxis 
MedStation 4000 system or the Pyxis Anesthesia System for the selected patient.

All Meds

List displays all medications in the formulary.

Undocumented Waste

Undocumented Waste lists all remove transactions in which the removed quantity 
is greater than the ordered dose.

Waste information

The key waste information exchanged between the Nurse Link application and the 
Pyxis MedStation system includes the following:

•

Removed Amount (Removed Quantity)—the amount removed from the 
MedStation.

This field is required for medications listed on the All Meds tab.

°

This field is a displayed field for the Removed Meds tab.

•

Given Amount (Administered Amount)—the amount given to the patient. 

•

Waste Clinical Data—displays clinical data categories for remote waste. 
Requires clinical data categories to be activated for the Pyxis Nurse Link 
device.
