10. Maintenance
After your CRVW3 stations have been operating for some time, periodic maintenance tasks may
need to be performed. Routine maintenance is a key activity that helps ensure the healthy and
ongoing operation of your system.
Some of these maintenance tasks can be performed remotely using
LoggerNet
and related
software tools. For other tasks, a visit to the CRVW3 field site is necessary.
10.1 CRVW3 maintenance with
LoggerNet
From time to time, Campbell Scientific will release updates to the CRVW3 firmware, and make
these available for download from the Campbell Scientific website. See
(p. 72) for details about how to update the CRVW3 firmware, including remote updates
made from within
LoggerNet
.
If the measurement output of the CRVW3 has been configured for engineering output and
baseline readings are used as part of that calculation, the sensors may need to be periodically
calibrated using the
Calibration Wizard
. See
Engineering output and calibration
(p. 81) for details
about calibration and using the
Calibration Wizard
.
10.1.1 Battery monitoring
The status of the battery on the CRVW3 should be monitored using the Battery field in the Status
table. Voltage levels greater than 12 VDC indicate that the charge circuit is active and charging
the battery. Levels of 12 VDC or less indicate no active charging. Once battery voltage drops to
10.5 VDC, functionality on the device begins to be restricted, and the Low10_5_Count value will be
incremented. Full shutdown of the device occurs at 9.5 VDC.
When using the –ALK option, the D cells on the device should be replaced about once every 12
months. This may be needed more frequently if the –RF451/RF452 or –RF407 radio is used, or if
measurements are made more frequently than once every 15 minutes. When using the –RC
option, consider replacing the rechargeable battery after several years of use.
NOTE:
It is possible to convert a CRVW3 from the –RC option to the –ALK option and vice versa. This
involves obtaining the desired battery or battery pack from Campbell Scientific and reversing
the latch that secures the battery within the enclosure. Remove the battery hinge pin and
rotate the hinge bracket to accommodate the desired battery option. Reinsert the hinge pin.
