6.1 Individual devices and radio
considerations
Each CRVW3 device can be deployed to the field as an independent data collection station.
Additionally, radio communications options are provided to allow CRVW3 devices to
communicate with each other, with repeater stations, and with a radio base station. This enables
CRVW3 devices to interact from the field with
LoggerNet
software running in the lab, office, or
other IT-hosted location. Automatic data collection, performed without technician field visits, is
one of the most useful benefits provided by a radio network configuration of multiple CRVW3
devices.
When installing multiple CRVW3 devices, consider deployment issues for each individual station.
6.2 Radio networks
When creating CRVW3 radio networks, a radio base station is always required. The base station
enables non-radio communications, such as data collection requests, to enter or exit the radio
network. The communications pathway provided by the base radio is critical for
LoggerNet
or
other software or hardware to communicate with a network of CRVW3 devices.
For many deployments, a simple radio network design will satisfy system requirements. This
manual provides basic instructions for implementation and operation of simple networks. For
complex or large radio networks see the specific radio manual:
or
.
6.2.1 Simple radio networks
The simplest network has one base station and one remote CRVW3 station. While the number of
remote stations in a network can vary, each network can only contain one base station. All
remote stations will communicate with the same base station.
