Adaptive modulation
PTP 450 units can transport data over the wireless link using a number of different
modulation modes. The radio automatically selects QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying)
- QPSK-MIMO-B and MIMO-A, 16-QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) - MIMO-B and
MIMO-A, 64-QAM - MIMO-B and MIMO-A or 256-QAM - MIMO-B and MIMO-A based on
the RF environment to provide 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 6x and 8x operation.
MIMO
Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) techniques provide protection against fading and
increase the probability that the receiver decodes a usable signal. When the effects of
MIMO are combined with those of OFDM techniques and a high link budget, there is a
high probability of a robust connection over a non-line-of-sight path.
The sub-features that comprises the MIMO techniques utilized in the PTP 450 product are:
Matrix A: This technique enables the PTP 450 radio to use a scheme that tries to
optimize coverage by transmitting the same data over both antennas. This redundancy
improves the signal to noise ratio at the receiver making it more robust, at the cost of
throughput.
‡‡
PTP 450 devices include a dual polar antenna; Channel A (-45 deg.) and Channel B (+45 deg.).
Listed receive sensitivity corresponds to single-channel readings.
