5. System Stability and Data Quality Assurance
The GasFinderMC internal operating conditions may drift slightly with age and external
conditions. This is normal and the system will self adjust. Eventually the internal
adjustment will exceed a limit and a manual reset has to be applied. Information is
available in the $GFDBG string as the ‘centreline_duty_cycle’ and may be checked
periodically with the
GasViewMC logging program. These should be monitored
regularly to check for system drifts outside normal operating ranges.
System performance indicators should be checked at least once per month. These
are best checked by connecting the
GasFinderMC output to a computer with the
GasViewMC program and collecting data for a minimum of one hour. A full day of
logging is recommended. The following system indicators can be read directly or
displayed from the log fi le using Excel macros from Boreal Laser Inc. These indicators
are helpful for quality assurance, system troubleshooting, trending and early detection
of potential problems to ensure system performance and reliability.
6. Performance Indicators
Array Dump
It is recommended that an array dump be performed monthly and the array fi le kept
for records as a history of system performance. The array dump shows the spectral
scan of the sample path and reference cell. This can be examined for changes against
previous fi les and saved for reference.
7. Annual System Check
A thorough system check and review of the following items should be made annually.
a. Inspect the system hardware for damage and integrity.
b. Check monthly performance parameters and review with historic data for system
performance and trending.
c. Inspect light levels throughout the system and make adjustments as required.
d. Check the condition of optical surfaces for damage or accumulation of foreign material.
e. Check and verify system output performance, signal levels and alarm performance
8. Factory Calibration and Maintenance
The GasFinderMC should be returned to the factory for calibration and service every
two years. This can be scheduled around maintenance activities to prevent associated
unit downtime.
