the housing.

Avoid contact between filter element and
housing.

Clean the sealing face on the outlet tube (Fig.
136).
Dust on the outer diameter of the outlet tube can
impair effective sealing.

Thoroughly clean the inside of the outlet tube
(Fig. 137) and the filter housing.
Dirt that may incidentally drop into the outlet tube
will reach the engine and cause wear.

Check the old filter element.
The old filter element can be of help to discover
foreign particles on the sealing face, which could
lead to leaks. A dust strip on the clean air side of
the filter may be a sign for thisEliminate the prob-
lem before installing a new filter element.

Clean or replace the filter element.
l
Examine the filter element thoroughly for dam-
age.
Before installing the new filter element check it for
possible damage from transport, cleaning or incor-
rect handling. Especially on the inside of the open
end (sealing area). Do not install a damaged filter
element.
