The HSI provides a display of the gyro
s t a b i l i z e d m a g n e t i c h e a d i n g o f t h e
helicopter. When connected to optional
V O R / I L S , A D F , a n d G P S n a v i g a t i o n
receivers this instrument combines the
functions of multiple indicators to display
bearing to / from, selected course, and
course / localizer / glideslope deviation.
The King KPI-552B is driven by the remote
m o u n t e d K i n g K C S - 3 0 5 G y r o c o m p a s s
S y s t e m , l o c a t e d i n t h e a f t a v i o n i c s
compartment. Two adjustment knobs are
used to set desired heading and course.
Warning flags (NAV, GS, & HDG) appear
to indicate unreliable navigation signal or
gyro failure.
HORIZONTAL SITUATION INDICATOR (HSI)
NAVIGATION INDICATORS
The vertical speed indicator is a standard
3-inch instrument which shows the rate of
climb or descent by sensing the rate of
atmospheric pressure change. Information
is shown in feet per minute (fpm) on a scale
from zero to plus or minus 3500 fpm. The
i n d i c a t o r i n c o r p o r a t e s a s e n s i t i v e
accelerometer to provide instantaneous
vertical speed indication.
VERTICAL SPEED
The standard 2-inch turn and slip indicator
is a 28 Volt DC powered self contained
g y r o s c o p i c i n s t r u m e n t w h i c h h a s a n
indicating needle to show the rate of turn
of the helicopter, along with fluid dampened
ball which shows turn coordination [trim].
