LAN Emulation
Bay Networks provides LAN emulation (LANE) services for Ethernet and token
ring networks over ATM. These services are compatible with the ATM Forum
LAN Emulation Over ATM specification.
LAN emulation allows interoperability between software applications residing on
ATM end stations and on traditional LAN end stations.
ATM Q.2931 Signaling
The Model 5782 VNR supports ATM Forum UNI Version 3.0 and Version 3.1
signaling protocol for SVCs, known as Q.2931. ATM signaling allows the router
to dynamically establish, maintain, and clear a switched virtual connection at the
user-to-network interface (UNI).
The signaling ATM adaptation layer (SAAL) resides between the ATM layer and
Q.2931 (
Figure 1-3
). SAAL is a reliable transport layer for signaling messages
sent between peer Q.2931 elements over the ATM layer.
