12. Place films of 0.18 mm or 7 mil between the magnets and weak iron as follows: 3
on the top and 2 on the front.
Ensure that the air bearings are unscrewed so that the distance of the magnets and
the weak iron is as great as possible(about 5mm). This means that the down force
is as weak as possible.
Place the carriage on the granite surface with air pressure.
Loosen the screws that fix the magnets in the carriage so that they take a certain
position.
Lock the magnets in the carriage by tightening the screws of the magnets again.
Use loctite to fix the top horizontal magnets. Do not put to much force on these
screws otherwise the carriage can bend.
Make sure that the air pressure tube of the air bearings are completely clear.
Adjust the air bearings so that they come loose from the granite surface. Loosen air
bearings one by one by half a turn and start with the horizontal ones. Ensure that
the air bearings are not rotating around there screws so that the air pressure tubes
are not damaged! The carriage is now completely resting on the magnets.
Adjust the air bearings so that they just touch the granite surface.
Rotate ½ turn further, starting with the vertical ones, so that the carriage is moving
away from the granite surface.
Move the carriage over the complete length of the granit to see if there are no
obstacles. Check that the carriage is moving smoothly. Keep the films between the
magnets and the motor.
The films can now be removed.
Remark:
To remove the carriage from the granite you should always raise the carriage so that
the maximum distance between magnets and weak iron is achieved. Always leave the
air pressure on and protect the linear motor by putting films between linear motor
and magnets. Remove the carriage from the granite.
Remark:
A replacement of the linear motor is very exceptional !
