Carriage Air Bearings
Air Bearings
When initializing the SilverWriter, 24 VDC sets VG
valve to switch air to the air bearings, via 1 regulator.
DO NOT CHANGE THE FACTORY SETTINGS.
The air bearings can be switched on by the following command:
LTL > HRDWINIT
-> always includes setting VG valve.
(air to air bearings)
When no air is present, the carriage is locked. The permanent
magnets in the carriage will hold the carriage against the linear motor
(weak iron rod underneath the linear motor windings).
The carriage floats on 5 air bearings:
•
two horizontal air bearings lifting the carriage up from the
horizontal granite block surface.
•
two vertical air bearings keeping the upper part away from the
vertical granite block surface above the linear motor.
•
one vertical air bearing in the center of the bottom part, keeping
it away from the vertical granite block surface underneath the linear
motor.
Diagnostics on Air Bearings
The distance between the carriage magnets and the linear motor surface
is about 0.36mm. This can be checked as follows:
•
cut out two pieces (4x100 cm) of thick film (7 mil or 0.18 mm)
•
it should be possible to insert these two pieces of film in the gap
between the magnets and the linear motor.
Caution
When water or oil has reached the air bearings and granite block,
you should shutdown the machine completely and call ManiaBarco for
support.
You should also check the air filter unit and you should examine your
compressor, drier and compressed air lines outside the SilverWriter .
Different carriage installations can have a small difference in carriage
adjustments.
Malfunctioning of the air bearings will result in ERRORS when operating
the Imagesetter:
