15 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How often should I have my chimney swept?
At least once a year. If you use your fi re more than three times a week on average,
have your chimney swept more often.
Have the chimney swept by a recognised company. Your fi re insurance policy may
make this a condition and ask for proof.
Does a built-in fi re have better output than an open fi re?
Yes, a built-in fi re has between 7 and 8 times the effi ciency of an open fi re. (See also
sections 7.2 and 7.3.)
What is the difference between nominal heat output, nominal heat input and
effi ciency?
Nominal heat output represents the net amount of heat that the appliance generates.
The total heat content of the fuel is the so called nominal heat input.
Effi ciency is the percentage of fuel converted into useful heat. It is the ratio of nominal
heat output and heat input.
How can I keep the glass clean?
By making a point of using dry, clean wood in the fi re. Wood that is too damp immediately
gives off lots of ash.
Make sure the seals are in good working order. Any air seeping out around the glass
part of the door will cool the air, resulting in the fi re not burning cleanly.
Can a wood-burning stove/built-in fi re be connected to a central heating
installation?
The Barbas range does not have any stoves/fi res that can be connected to central
heating installations. W
e do not advise attempting it !!
At what temperature does/do the convection fan(s) start up?
If the appliance is fi tted with a convector fan, this is controlled by a clickson
(temperature switch with an on-off function).
The convection fan activate automatically when the appliance reaches a
temperature of about 40°C.
When the fi re in the appliance has been extinguished, the fan will continue to run for a
while until the temperature in the appliance falls below 35°C.
