INSTALLING SOFTWARE
INSTALLING OIS12 SOFTWARE (SOFTWARE RELEASE 5.1A or 5.2)
I-E96-107-2N
A - 17
This installation guide is written for a first time installation of
OIS12 console software. If this is an upgrade, be sure to review
the section
before installing the software.
NOTE: Before starting the installation of the OIS12 software, if you
are using ATI mouse, it must already enabled in DOS before pro-
ceeding. Refer to the
Appendix for details.
Overview
The consoles are networked to share information between each
other. Each computer keeps a list of all other computers in the
network. As new computers are added, they are added to these
lists. When operator consoles are started, they check with
other consoles to see if they missed any additions while they
were turned off. When installing the network for the first time,
each new additional computer must be able to communicate
with a running console in order to obtain a list of other con-
soles it should communicate with. The first console installed
must be fully installed and running before the second or any
other console is installed. Once the first and second consoles
have been installed, either one of them can be turned off while
other consoles are installed. Any installed console can serve to
add new computers to the network.
Client vs. Server
•
Server consoles are connected to the INFI-NET loop
through a CIU. Servers run additional software to support
this connection. They also maintain a tag database, updat-
ing tags with values received from the loop and transmit-
ting operator actions to the loop. The OIS12 is a Server
console.
•
Client consoles provide operator interfaces. They commu-
nicate with all or selected Servers to obtain tag values. The
OIC12 is a client console.
•
Server/Client consoles run both Server and Client soft-
ware. The client software can attach to any Server on the
network.
