Third-party network management products
This section describes some third-party monitoring tools that might provide benefit to
companies implementing IP Telephony. Avaya is not involved with the development of these
products. Inclusion on this list is not exhaustive, nor does it represent an endorsement from
Avaya. Products are listed here as a convenience for our customers:
●
Multi Router Traffic Grapher
●
HP OpenView Network Node Manager
Multi Router Traffic Grapher
The Multi Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG) monitors the traffic load on network links, and
generates HTML pages of graphic-displayed images that provide a live visual representation of
this traffic. MRTG is based on Perl and C, and works under UNIX and Windows NT. The Multi
Router Traffic Grapher:
●
Uses SNMP to read the traffic counters of your routers, logs the traffic data, and creates
graphs that represent the traffic on the monitored network connection. These graphs are
embedded into Web pages. MRTG even allows you to accumulate two or more data
sources into a single graph.
●
Creates visual representations of the traffic seen daily, during the last week, the last
month, and the last year. MRTG performs well enough to monitor 200 or more network
links from any reasonably-performing PC.
●
Monitors any SNMP variable that you choose. You can even use an external program to
gather the data that MRTG should monitor, for example:
- System load
- Login sessions
- Modem availability
For more MRTG information, see:

under the terms of the GPL.
