Lease Time In Minutes: each host is assigned an IP address by the
DHCP server for this amount of time when it connects to the network.
When the lease expires the server determines if the computer has
disconnected from the network. If it has, the server may reassign this IP
address to a newly-connected computer. This feature ensures that IP
addresses that are not in use become available for other computers on
the network.
9
Provide Host Name If Not Specified by Client: if the DHCP client does
not have a host name, the device automatically assign one.
♦
DHCP Relay: your device can act as a DHCP relay in case you want to
dynamically assign IP addresses from a DHCP server other than your
device's DHCP server. Note that when selecting this option you must also
change the device's WAN to work in routing mode. After selecting 'DHCP
Relay', a 'New IP Address' link appears. Click this link and then enter the IP
address of the DHCP server.
♦
Disabled: if you want to statically assign IP addresses to your network
computers.

tab:
Figure
3-126: Editing Network Connection - Routing Tab
You can choose to setup your device to use static or dynamic routing. Dynamic routing
automatically adjusts how packets travel on the network, whereas static routing
specifies a fixed routing path to destinations.
•
Routing Mode:
select one of the following routing modes:
♦
Route: the device functions as a router between two networks.
♦
NAPT: Network Address and Port Translation (NAPT) refers to network
address translation involving the mapping of port numbers, allowing multiple
hosts to share a single IP address. Use NAPT if your LAN encompasses
multiple devices, a topology that necessitates port translation in addition to
address translation.
•
Device Metric:
a value used by the device to determine whether one route is
superior to another, considering parameters such as bandwidth and delay.
•
Default Route:
defines this device as a the default route.
